Expert view

Everyone

Expert view is the optional layout for people who want more on screen at once: two pages side by side, a thumbnail strip along the bottom, face tiles in the margin, and keyboard shortcuts. Turn it on when Simple View feels too spare.

Turning it on

Open the menu () in the top-right corner of the book and pick Expert View. The same item will now read Simple View — pick it again to switch back. The book remembers your choice.

The Story of My Life

Home and Chat stay outside the menu. Everything else — including the Expert / Simple View toggle — lives behind .

The two-page spread

Expert view shows two pages at a time, like an open book. The arrows on either side now move forward or backward by two pages at once.

Keyboard shortcuts

Expert view is the place for keyboard navigation.

Thumbnail strip

A row of tiny page previews sits along the bottom of the book. Click any one to jump there. The two currently-visible pages are highlighted.

The thumbnail strip. Highlighted tiles are the two pages on screen right now.

Go to page

A small box labelled Go to page sits near the thumbnails. Type a page number and press Go.

Face tiles

When a page has recognized faces, small circular face tiles appear in the margin next to it. Click one to see who it is, who else they look like, or (if you’re an organizer or admin) give them a name. See People & Faces for more.

Face tiles flank the page. A gold ring means the face has been named.

Resizing the book

Drag the small handle at the bottom edge of the book area up or down to make the pages taller or shorter. The book remembers your size per device.

Comments panel

Below each page, Expert view always shows its comment thread. Simple View hides comments behind the page-text panel until you open it. See Comments & suggestions.

Coming back to Simple View

Your choice of layout is remembered, so once you pick one the book stays that way until you switch again.
