Page links
Organizer & adminA page link connects two pages that belong together — a death certificate to a birth certificate, a story to a photo of the person it’s about, a wedding portrait to the invitation a few pages later. Links work within a book and across books in the same family.
What you’ll see
Open any page and look below the caption. If the page has links, you’ll see a Linked pages section with one card per linked page, each showing a thumbnail, the page number, and any note that was added. For links to a different book the book’s title shows in gold above the page number.
Click a card to jump to that page. If the link points at a different book, the viewer switches books for you and lands on the right page.
Adding a link
Below the linked pages list, the + Add link button opens a picker. Choose the target book if the family has more than one, then either:
- Browse the book by scrolling the thumbnail grid.
- Search captions by typing words from the title or body.
- Go to page by typing the exact page number.
Click a thumbnail to select it (a gold border appears). Add an optional Note — this is short text that shows under the link card and explains why the two pages belong together. Then click Add link.
Adding a link from A to B is the same as adding one from B to A — the link shows up on both pages. You only have to add it once.
Good notes
The note is optional and only useful when the connection isn’t obvious from the two pages alone. A few examples:
- “Back of this photo” on a page that shows handwriting on the back of an image.
- “Death certificate for John Reed” on a death certificate linked to a birth certificate.
- “The receipt for this purchase” on a receipt linked to the item it bought.
If the connection is obvious — like a wedding photo linked to the wedding invitation — leave the note blank.
Anchored passages (reading mode)
In a reading sequence, a link can be anchored to a specific passage or journal entry instead of a whole page — for example, attaching the photo of a view to the sentence describing it. Anchored passages show a subtle underline in the reading view; tapping one previews the linked page first, with a Go to page option. This feature is enabled per book; if you don’t see it, it isn’t turned on for your book yet.
Removing a link
Each link card has a small × in the top-right corner. Click it and confirm. The link disappears from both pages immediately.
Cross-family rules
Links stay inside a family. The picker only shows books from your active family, and the server rejects any attempt to link to a page in a different family. If a relative who runs a separate family wants to cross-reference a page, copy the relevant pages into the shared family first.
Who can do what
- Commenters can see linked-page cards and click them to navigate.
- Organizers and admins can add and remove links.
